Germany's energy transition has changed our perspective on how we generate electricity and heat homes and buildings. Electricity from renewable energy sources is the future. In 2017, over 30 percent of Germany's electricity demand was generated by renewable energy sources such as solar and wind power plants. By 2022, the share of green electricity had reached approximately 46 percent. Germany's climate protection goals go even further. The aim is to increase the share of renewable energies in gross electricity consumption to at least 80 percent by 2030. This will make more and more electricity from renewable sources available to consumers. The expansion of wind and solar energy also gives electricity the opportunity to be used efficiently and cost-effectively as a heating source.
